Crowcon offers a range of infra-red (IR) and ultra-violet (UV) based flame detectors for quickly detecting flames at a distance. Depending on model, this includes a variety of gas and fuel fires including those generated from hydrocarbons, hydrogen, metals, inorganic and hydroxyl sources.
The 40/40 series operate in the harshest environmental conditions and are self-contained, stand-alone devices designed for direct connection to control and alarm systems or automatic fire-extinguishing systems.
40/40I Triple IR (IR3) Flame Detector
The 40/40I Triple IR (IR3) Flame Detector detects fuel and gas fires at long distances with the highest immunity to false alarms. The 40/40I IR3 can detect a 1ft2 (0.1 m2) gasoline / heptane pan fire at 215 ft (65 m) in less than 5 seconds.
40/40M Multi IR Flame Detector
The 40/40M Multi IR Flame Detector is specifically designed for detection of hydrocarbon and hydrogen flames. It detects hydrocarbon-based fuel and gas fires at long distances with the highest immunity to false alarms.
40/40 Series UV/IR Flame Detectors
There are two versions of 40/40 Series UV / IR Flame Detectors:
Model 40/40L (& LB) detects hydrocarbon-based fuel and gas fires, hydroxyl and hydrogen fires, as well as metal and inorganic fires.
Model 40/40L4 (& L4B) is identical to the 40/40L except that the IR sensor works at a wavelength of 4.5µm and is only suitable for hydrocarbon-based fires.
40/40UV Flame Detector
The 40/40UV Flame Detector design is the most durable and weather resistant UV flame detector currently on the market.
40/40R Single IR Flame Detector
The 40/40R Single IR Flame Detector detects hydrocarbon-based fuel and gas fires using advanced flame analysis tools.
The 20/20 range includes Mini IR3 and Mini UV/IR detectors which offer a lower cost, lower power, compact design in a general purpose (non-Ex approved) format. The 20/20MI IR3 is also available as ATEX intrinsically safe approved.

40/40U UV flame detector. Low cost and fast response, but best suited for indoor use where UV energy sources are not present. Spectrex Ref: 40/40U-111AC
40/40UB UV flame detector with built-in test (BIT). Spectrex Ref: 40/40UB-111AC
40/40R IR flame detector. Low cost detector best suited to indoor applications where false alarm stimuli are not present.
40/40L UV/IR flame detector. Comprises a 2.5 - 3.0µ IR sensor and a UV sensor to provide improved false alarm immunity. Spectrex Ref: 40/40L-111AC
40/40LB UV/IR flame detector with built-in test (BIT). Spectrex Ref: 40/40LB-111AC
40/40L4 (4.5µm) UV/IR flame detector. Improved performance over the standard 40/40L model. Not suitable for hydrogen fires.
40/40L4B (4.5µm) UV/IR flame detector with built-in test (BIT). Improved performance over the standard 40/40LB model. Not suitable for hydrogen fires.
40/40UFL UV/IR Ultra Fast flame detector, with built-in test (BIT). High-speed response (20 msec) and high reliability (immunity to false alarms).
40/40I IR3 flame detector. Detects hydrocarbon fuel and gas fires at long distances and provides the highest immunity to false alarms. Note: Standard sensitivity set to 30m range. State clearly if 65m range is required. Spectrex Ref: 40/40I-111AC
40/40M Multi sensor IR flame detector. Specifically designed for detection of hydrocarbon and hydrogen flames. Detects hydrocarbon-based fuel and gas fires at long distances with the highest immunity to false alarms. The 40/40M can detect a gasoline pan fire at 215 ft (65m) or a hydrogen flame at 100 ft (30m) in less than 5 seconds. Stainless Steel as standard.
