Personal Evacuation from Height Training


Course description:

A course designed to provide the individual with the skills and confidence to evacuate themselves from work areas at height should there be a requirement due to an emergency. Areas could include cranes, VNA Trucks, platforms, towers or other similar.

The course can be delivered on site, providing minimum theory and practical facilities are available, or at the Guardian Training Centre in Kent.


Recommended for:

For those companies who have individuals working at height, where, should an emergency occur such as a fire, there may exist the need for workers to evacuate via an alternate method other than stairs and ladders.

The course is suitable for most industries including construction, logistics, building maintenance and factory operations, to name a few.


Course Aims:

The aim of this course is to give the participants the necessary skills through theoretical and practical training to evacuate themselves from a structure at height using a full body harness and rope-based descender devices.


Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand and explain the importance of emergency plans for work at height, including the potential dangers of suspension in a harness.
  • Identify a safe place and system for personal evacuation from height.
  • Recognise hazards and potential dangerous situations whilst carrying out personal evacuation from height.
  • Understand the importance of inspection, care and maintenance of evacuation equipment.
  • Select, pre-use inspect, set up and use a personal evacuation system


Course assessment.

Both written and practical assessment made.


Course Duration.

1 day.

6 delegates to 1 instructor.


Pre-requisite.

  • Medically fit
  • Must hold an in date Work at Height training certificate.
  • A good understanding of the local language, spoken, written and read.


Course validity.

On successful completion of the course delegates will be issued with a certificate of competence valid for 2 years.
